First experience behind the wheel of Formula E machinery
A new category, a new challenge and another important step in an already diverse racing career. Richard Verschoor made his first appearance in a Formula E car during the official Rookie Test in Madrid, joining Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team for his debut outing in electric motorsport machinery.
The Rookie Test, held following the Madrid E-Prix weekend, gave young and developing drivers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in Formula E’s GEN3 Evo cars while supporting teams with additional data and setup work. For Verschoor, it marked his first time driving a Formula E car, adding another important experience to a career that already includes success in karting, Formula 2 and endurance racing.
Driving the Lola Yamaha ABT T001, the Dutchman worked closely with the team throughout the test programme as he adapted to the unique characteristics of Formula E machinery, including energy management, regeneration systems and the demands of electric street racing.
Expanding experience across multiple disciplines
The Formula E outing forms part of an increasingly broad motorsport programme for Verschoor in 2026. Alongside his campaign in the European Le Mans Series with Duqueine Team, Verschoor also continues his development as part of the McLaren Driver Development Programme. His experience across different categories and car concepts continues to strengthen his versatility as a driver, while opening doors to future opportunities across international motorsport.
Continuing to build for the future
For Richard Verschoor, the Madrid Rookie Test was more than just a one-day programme. It represented another opportunity to learn, adapt and gain experience at the highest levels of professional racing. Working with an established Formula E team such as Lola Yamaha ABT provided valuable insight into one of motorsport’s fastest-growing championships. As the 2026 season continues across endurance racing, testing programmes and international competition, the focus remains clear: keep developing, keep performing and continue building towards the next step.
